Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the AFCAT exam, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Nationality: Indian citizenship is mandatory.

Age Limit: The age limit varies depending on the branch and entry type but generally falls between 20 and 24 years.

1.Flying Branch:20 to 24 years of age at the time of commencement of course

2.Ground Duty: 20 to 26 years of age at the time of commencement of course

Note:
1.The Airforce age limit for candidates applying through NCC special entry and AFCAT entry are the same.

2.The upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current commercial pilot licence issued by DGCA (INDIA) is relaxed up to 26 years

Educational Qualification:

  • For Flying branch in the Indian Airforce
    1.Candidates should have mandatorily passed with a minimum of 50% marks each in Mathematics and Physics at 10+2 level and
    2.Graduation with minimum of three years degree course in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
  • OR
  • 3.BE/ B Tech degree (four years course) from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent
  • OR
  • 4.Candidates who have cleared section A and B examination of associate membership of institution of Engineers (INDIA) or Aeronautical society of India from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent
  • For Ground duty (Technical) Branch:
    Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) {AE(L)}:
  • 1.Candidates with a minimum of 50% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four years degree graduation/integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/ Technology from recognized University
  • OR
  • cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following disciplines:-
    • Communication Engineering.
    • Computer Engineering/ technology
    • Computer Engineering and Application
    • Computer science and Engineering/ Technology
    • Electrical and computer Engineering

  • Candidates should have mandatorily passed with a minimum of 50% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level and Graduation with minimum three degree course in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent
  • OR
  • 2.BE/B Tech degree ( Four year course) from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent
  • Administration and Logistics:
  • Passed 10+2 and Graduate Degree (Minimum three years degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
  • Accounts Branch:
  • 1.Passed 10+2 and done graduation in any of the following branches with 60% marks or equivalent from a recognized university
    • B.Com degree ( Minimum of three years course)
    • Bachelor of Business Administration (with specialization in Finance)/ Bachelor of Management studies (with specialization in Finance)/ Bachelor of Business studies (with specialization in France)
    • Qualified CA/ CMA/ CS/ CFA
    • BSc with specialization in Finance
    • Education Branch
    • 1.Passed 10+2 and Post-Graduation with 50% marks in any discipline including integrated courses offering PG(single degree without permission to exit and lateral entry) and with 60% marks in Graduation in any discipline
    • Meteorology
    • 1.Passed 10+2 and B Sc with Physics and Mathematics with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent or four year Graduation in Engineering/Technology discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following streams:-
      • Communication Engineering.
      • Computer Engineering/Technology.

AFCAT Exam Overview:

The AFCAT exam is conducted twice a year by the Indian Air Force to select candidates for various branches of the IAF. It consists of two stages: the AFCAT written examination and the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) interview. The written examination assesses candidates’ aptitude in areas such as Verbal Ability, Numerical Ability, Reasoning & Military Aptitude, and General Awareness, while the AFSB interview evaluates their officer-like qualities, leadership skills, and suitability for a career in the IAF.

Exam Pattern

The AFCAT written examination consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and is conducted online. The exam is divided into four sections:

Exam syllabus

Marking Scheme is as follows:-

  1. Three marks will be awarded for every correct answer.
  2. One mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
  3. No marks for unattempted questions.
  4. Before declaration of result, marks scored by candidates will be normalised.

AIR FORCE COMMON ADMISSION TEST (AFCAT): The AFCAT Question Paper will have 100 questions. The total time allotted for the paper is two hours. Each Question Paper will have questions from the following topics:-

1 English Comprehension, Detect Error in Sentence, Sentence Completion/ Filling in of correct word, Synonym/ Antonym, Cloze Test or Fill in the Gaps in a paragraph, Idioms and Phrases, Analogy, Sentence Rearranging, Substitution in a Sentence/ One Word Substitution
2 General Awareness History, Geography, Sports, National & International Organizations, Art & Culture, Personalities, Environment & Ecology, Indian Polity, Economy, Basic Science Based Knowledge, Science & Technology, Current Affairs (National & International), Defence.
3 Numerical Ability Decimal Fraction, Time and Work, Average/ Percentage, Profit & Loss, Ratio & Proportion, Simple and Compound Interest, Time & Distance and Races (Trains/ Boats & Streams), Area and Perimeter, Probability, Number System & Number Series, Mixture & Allegation Rules, Clocks.
